Block Panchayat

Blocks were formed as part of the National Extension Service Scheme that was introduced across the country in 1952. As part of this, Puzhakkal Block was formed as a pre-extension block in the financial year 1961-62. The block, which started with a one-year term and a fund of Rs. 1 lakh, was later upgraded to a NES block. The block office started functioning in the building of Sri Kunnathat (Thachappillai) Madhava Menon as its headquarters in Puzhakkal. Later, the office was shifted to a rented building in Muthuvara and then to Puranattukara. Later, due to the efforts of the locals, 1.46 acres of land was purchased from Sri Alappatt Joseph Master in Puranattukara for a nominal price and the headquarters building was constructed.
